If you've ever tried making pralines at home, you'll really appreciate the smooth, creamy taste of these individually-wrapped goodies, without all the fuss. The streetcar gift tin honors one of the most recognizable symbols of New Orleans, and makes this a wonderfully unique gift for any occasion for that "hard-to-buy-for" person on your list.
New Orleans' overhead-trolly electric streetcars have been operated continuously since the 1800's and are now the only ones running in the U.S. The two lines operating today are the first and last to be inaugurated, the St. Charles Avenue line, in service since 1893, and the Riverfront line, begun in 1988. As its name implies, the Riverfront streetcar runs alongside the Mississippi River as it winds past Downtown and the French Quarter. The St. Charles streetcar travels along the famous avenue from Downtown New Orleans through the historic Garden District and past Uptown New Orleans to the Carrollton area before turning around and taking the same route back Downtown. The streetcars running today were built in 1923 and 1924 by the Perley A. Thomas Car Company of High Point, NC, and replacement parts must be hand-crafted. The expense of keeping the old cars in service is great, but it's worth it to preserve a treasured part of New Orleans' heritage. Like the streetcars, Creole Delicacies gourmet foods are mainstays of New Orleans tradition. Still made according to time-honored recipes, our products help preserve a precious culinary heritage and provide a taste of the flavor of historic New Orleans. Buy one for you and one for a friend.
